BIOLUMINESCENT SPECIATION LAB
In the high-altitude wet forests of Oahu, the unique carnivorous caterpillar Hyposmocoma lives inside spider webs. To avoid predation by the resident spider, it harvests discarded insect parts and attaches them to its silken case, blending into the debris pile.
LAB OBJECTIVES:
1. Harvest Camouflage: Move your cursor or press arrow keys to navigate the web. Click on trapped remains (wings, heads, legs) to pluck them from the silk threads.
2. Avoid Web Vibration: Dragging or plucking too quickly creates thread tension. High velocity spikes spider alertness.
3. Synthesize Protection: Select harvested items from your inventory to dress the top, mid, and bottom segments of the caterpillar's case.
4. Lodge Camouflage: Match the case profile to the spider's blindness expectations to complete the trial.
